Oh, Summer, where are you?

On bike, in Prague
Sure, I'm not crazy to go cycling in the middle of winter. But after discovering Grant's Prague Bike Blog, it suddenly doesn't seem that stupid. Still, the photo is from summer and I almost killed myself when taking it :)

Too much close to TV Tower

Prague TV Tower at Zizkov
I can't help myself but I think I won't be able to live that close to our TV Tower. I love it from distance but that close I would be thinking about what would happen if it fall down all the time. Don't know, I'm weird.

Dole bananas in Prague
If you've ever wondered where the origin of those Dole bananas is, here's the answer :)

PS for us Europeans: You can get some cheap tickets on Ryanair.com today (well, they usually have even cheaper tickets than this promo). Or try SkyEurope.com (they usually don't have cheaper tickets than their promos, though).

4 floors to our education

Staircase in my school, Prague
Staircase in our school. Quite a lot of us actually use it. Because the elevator is like the slooowest one on the world. On the other hand, it's new, nice and shiny :) And I passed the Math exam today :)

PS: Here's much nicer staircase in Prague

My (mystery) elevator

Photo of a control panel in an elevator, Prague
After seeing and reading about this elevator in Rome I thought I should post mine, too. It works exactly the same as in Rome (it's perfectly written in the link). Only mine is a bit bigger, almost 100cm x 100cm. There's just one weird thing, though. It takes 22 seconds to get from 0 to 6. But when you call the elevator it takes more than 30 seconds for it to arrive. Where it spends those 8 seconds? I don't know.

PS: Well, now I know why :) It's a part of Transparency art project. And I'll show you the other one I randomly captured. Tomorrow.

Space exhibition

Space exhibition behind National theatre in Prague
There is this Space exhibition behind the National theatre. The number of posters is just right that you can see all and don't freeze to death. And there's one more thing on National theatre. I'll show it to you tomorrow :)

Cheap tiramisu

Photo of Boulevard Bageterie in Vodickova street, Prague
One cheap tiramisu tip: After 9 pm you get all tiramisu, salads and other food that won't last to the next day for half the price here at Boulevard Bageterie (something like Subway sandwiches) in Vodickova street. And they close at 11 pm.

One from Christmas

Picture of Christmas tree in the back of Prague National Theatre
I have this picture from Christmas. This is next to the National theatre and it was so cold that day that my camera refused to move film to the next frame. So here you have the beautiful Christmas tree framed by a random building. Here's Kakna's in color :)

Thanks for non-stop and late night grocery stores

One thing I like about Prague and, well, any other bigger city is that you can buy food anytime. I would probably die if there weren't any non-stop grocery stores. And believe me there are plenty of them in Prague :)

Soap OTTA and where to ice-skate

Soap OTTA vintage ad on an old building in Prague downtown
Vintage ad for "Soap OTTA" :)
This is right at Kozi street where you can find a public playground which has an ice-ring during winter. Great if you want to spend evening out. They are open till late hours and you can borrow their skates.

PS: I found this funny slogan for soap Otta but as it won't sound that good in English you have to speak Czech to understand, sorry :)
"Ať jsi černý jako bota, umyje tě mýdlo Otta."

Prague has a really spectacular main post office

Queue at Prague main post office at about 9 pm
But if you go there after 8 pm when they close the main hall you better prepare for a long long wait in a queue. Once you get past the half opened doors it's usually only 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately this is quite normal. The strangest thing is that in this almost night times people go there with tens of letters or packages so the only two post officers here have a lot of work with everybody. Unfortunately I go there with tens of letters or packages, too.

... and the queue gets even longer as you can see in this and this post. The record length is when it's taxes time :)

To see out main post office in all its beauty, please go see Kakna's image :)

PS: The guy in front of me was actually from FedEx.
PPS: There is "no photos" sign so I don't know how Kakna did that photo :)

Jirka in La Fabrique

Portrait of Prague DJ
Jirka is another DJ you might meet in Prague's clubs (it was him making the yesterday's DJ smile and wave). I'm not the most objective person about this but he is absolutely amazing. You have to see him :)
This is as he finished his work at La Fabrique club (which is at Uhelny trh square and closes at 4 am, like most Prague clubs).

It's Monday... (+ 3 things you need to know about Bombay bar)

A photo of DJ in popular Prague bar Bombay
... but Fridays and Saturdays are much better (I guess not only) in Prague :) Here is DJ from Bombay bar waving and smiling specially for you. Three facts you need to know about Bombay bar: 1) it's actually a nice and cosy place, 2) it's in Dlouha street, 3) it is opened till 6 am (and this is the biggest advantage).

Christmas decorations and movie recommendations

Christmas decoration at Lucerna passage in Prague downtown
I know it's late. Christmas decorations in Lucerna passage. And you've probably seen it here already :)

For those in Prague: There is a series of interesting films and documentaries in Prague Municipal Library at the end of January. I'm going to see Annie Leibovitz movie (once again) on January 22, and try to catch a few more. Wish they could start at least an hour later. All info is at their website. And if you prefer Aero Cinema, they have Annie the same day only an hour earlier.

2009's number 1

Rainy Wenceslas square in Prague
Hi! Hope you had a great holidays :) My tradition for Christmas is to be ill and so did happen this time. Which means no snowy wonderland at our cottage in southern Bohemia (well, technically it was snowless anyway) and spending the last day of 2008 with Andy Warhol's book The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B & Back Again) and all the entertainment 8 channels of Czech and Slovak television can offer. The biggest TV show was broadcasted live from Wenceslas square. Thus the choice of picture for today. Anyhow, I think 2009 will be a good year, don't you?
